"The Dark Watchers are ghostly and mysterious figures who, according to local legend, stalk the Santa Lucia Mountains in California. Since the colonial era of the 18th century, Spanish explorers named them Los Vigilantes Oscuros. Science often explains this phenomenon as a Brocken spectre. This is an optical illusion where a person's shadow is cast gigantically onto mist or clouds."
