About AleSmith Brewing Company
AleSmith Brewing Company was founded in 1995 in San Diego, California. Over the years, the brewery has built up a wide range of beers, featuring both American styles and interpretations of European classics.
From West Coast IPA to imperial stout: AleSmith showcases different sides of craft beer. Well-known beers form the foundation, while new variants and barrel-aged releases provide room for further discovery.
Speedway Stout: coffee and dark malt
One of AleSmith's most famous beers is Speedway Stout. This imperial stout is brewed with coffee and combines roasted malt flavors with chocolatey notes. Additionally, you may encounter nuances of dark fruit, toffee, and caramel.
It is a powerful beer with a creamy mouthfeel. An excellent introduction for those who enjoy discovering how coffee and dark malt can complement one another.
AleSmith also creates various Speedway variants, in which different types of coffee or added ingredients give a unique twist to the base.
What does barrel aging add?
For Barrel-Aged Speedway Stout, AleSmith ages the beer in bourbon barrels. These can add notes of oak, vanilla, and bourbon to the coffee and chocolate flavors of the base beer.
This creates another layer on top of the familiar stout character. With special variants, additional ingredients can also play a role. As a result, every version has its own unique balance between malt, coffee, barrel, and any added flavorings.
More than stout
AleSmith also brews beers that focus on hops. AleSmith IPA is a West Coast IPA, a direction that fits well with the beer tradition of San Diego.
Additionally, San Diego Pale Ale .394 is one of the brewery's staple beers. With these, AleSmith offers various starting points: from a Pale Ale or IPA to a full-bodied stout to sip and savor.
